Villa Marvee is an interior project set in the heart of Canggu, Bali, a sanctuary located in an energetic neighborhood defined by density, movement, and constant activity, just minutes from Berawa Beach.Surrounded by vibrant cafés and daily crowds, the project began with a simple intention to create an interior that feels calm within a restless environment. While the villa’s exterior adopts a more decorative, colonial-influenced expression, the interior is designed as a complete contrast, quiet, muted, and grounding. We were asked to create a space that feels calm, restful, and timeless, a place to slow down and pause after the energy of Canggu. The design draws from shared principles found in Japanese sensibilities and Scandinavian restraint, not as a stylistic label, but as an approach rooted in simplicity, warmth, and clarity.
Spaces are organized with minimal visual interruption, allowing proportion, light, and moments of emptiness to shape the experience. The layout is kept open and fluid, enhancing a sense of continuity and ease throughout the interior. From a distance, the palette appears muted and understated. This restraint is intentional, ensuring the space does not compete for attention. Instead, depth is built through texture. Ribbed details, subtle black accents, stone finishes, woven furniture, and textiles create layered surfaces that reveal themselves gradually. While the tones appear restrained, they are not flat. Richness emerges through materiality, shadow, and touch.
Villa Marvee is not an interior that seeks to stand out. It reveals itself slowly, shaped by light throughout the day. Its calm is not an absence of character, but a carefully constructed presence.
